This year has been one of personal growth for me – sometimes intentional, sometimes unexpected, sometimes painful; but nevertheless one of great change.
One of the biggest ways I have sought intentional growth is through reading books. I have always enjoyed reading, and it is a passion I hope to pass on to my children! The last several years have found me only reading books for a particular phase of life – parenthood, marriage, natural living, etc. I’d be facing a specific issue or problem and then read what I could on that particular subject (Babywise, anyone?!)
I’m still doing that as specific issues arise, but I also desired for something different. I wanted to put in dedicated effort to focus on personal growth and ways I could be best prepared for my future, instead of crisis-management living where I’m scrambling to find an answer to the latest issue.
So, without further ado, check out some of what I’ve read this year (not including books read to my children! haha!)
The life-changing magic of tidying up
Start (I enjoy Jon Acuff’s books; he’s easy to read and has lots of practical advice!)
How to talk so kids will listen and listen so kids will talk
From Good to Grace
The Happiness Project
Happier at Home
The Hurt Pocket
Leaders Eat Last
Start with Why
The Blessed Life
The Child Whisperer
Quiet (Good one for my fellow introverts!)
The Millionaire Next Door
The Energy Bus (You’ll notice I also have several Jon Gordon books on my list! I find his short, parable-style books to be quick and easy reads, while full of challenging information! I highly recommend his books.)
The No Complaining Rule
The Shark and the Goldfish
Chase the Lion (brand new! I really enjoyed this one.)
She Believes (also brand new!)
The Shack (I’m very conflicted about how I feel on this one. If you’ve read it I’d love to hear your thoughts!)
Radical (loved this!)
Despite trying not to multitask with reading, I have ended up with certain books I needed to read (either due to a specific issue I was facing, or a library due date deadline, etc.!) so I have a few books I’m currently working to read including these:
Present over Perfect (I’ve heard so many good things about this book, I can’t wait to fully dive in!)
Extravagant Grace (a challenging book based on the life and writings of John Newton)
How to Win Friends and Influence People (Carnegie! an oldie but goodie) 🙂
What did you read this year? What books should I put on my list for next year? I’d love to hear your favorites!
I hope you have a Merry Christmas and a great new year!
